National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA)

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency(NGA) is a support agency within the United States government. It was formed in 2003, and has its headquarters in Springfield, Va.
Its primary purpose is to provide Geospatial-Intelligence and support to United States government agencies, particularly the Department of Defense. It also provides support for non military activities such as diaster relief and counter narcotics operations. Essentially if the U.S. government needs geospatial data they turn to the NGA

The National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) is the former name of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). It was formed on Oct 6th, 1996.
