Lesson 2: GIS Software Technology
Since the early 1970s, Esri has continued to develop GIS software technology supporting functional requirements identified by the GIS user community. Sensitivity to software development trends and enterprise architecture strategies provide guidelines for development investment. Esri software developers leverage the latest computer hardware and software technology to maintain leadership in the GIS marketplace. Resources are aligned to provide the best software and services based on GIS customer needs.

Exercise 2: Use the CPT to explore GIS software technology
The Capacity Planning Calculator is used to generate standard Esri workflows identified on the CPT Workflow tab. The workflow nomenclature identifies the selected software technology and workflow performance parameters. The performance parameters are used by the Capacity Planning Tool to establish system design performance targets for the selected software technology.
- Download the Arc19CapacityPlanning0201 CPT for use in the class exercises
- Click here to start Exercise 2 where you will perform the following tasks:
- Use the standard workflows provided on the CPT Workflow tab to identify your project workflow performance targets.
- Match the CPT recipe for each project workflow with the appropriate user activity.
- Select each of the project workflows from the list of standard workflows in the CPT Workflow tab.
- Include a copy of each workflow in your project workflows.
- Use your selected project workflows on the CPT Design1 tab to complete your system architecture design.
